Munich. Kullukcu. City Scapes. Istanbul-New York-Munich. Maddy Rosenberg – Mustafa Pancar

Published on January 19th, 2012 by in Exhibition

Munich

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the signing of the recruitment agreement between Germany and Turkey, the U.S. Consulate General Munich has invited Istanbul-based artist Mustafa Pancar and New York-based artist Maddy Rosenberg to Munich to celebrate diversity through the arts. Over the course of November, the two artists will collaborate to create urban landscapes at Kullukcu Gallery. These works will be inspired by the vibrant urban tapestries that are woven together in their respective home cities and in Munich. The artist-in-residence project “Cityscapes” will spill onto canvas a reflection of the dynamic elements that bind together cities like Istanbul, New York and Munich, which have a rich history of immigration. Concepts like integration, identity and homeland will be addressed in accompanying programs.
Exhibition. December 09. 2011 – January 15, 2012

Istanbul. Arter. Second Exhibtion. Hafriyat

“SECOND EXHIBITION” at ARTER opening on 28 November

Exhibition view. Arter

Initiated by the Vehbi Koç Foundation, ARTER opened on 8 May, 2010, with the collection-based exhibition “Starter”, curated by René Block.
ARTER’s new exhibition is scheduled to open on 28 November and titled “Second Exhibition”.
Curated by Emre Baykal, “Second Exhibition” includes more than 30 new works by 20 artists:  Halil Altındere, Burak Arıkan, Volkan Aslan, Vahap Avşar, Banu Cennetoğlu – Yasemin Özcan Kaya, Ayşe Erkmen, Hafriyat (Murat Akagündüz, Antonio Cosentino, extramücadele, İnci Furni, Mustafa Pancar), Ali Kazma, Aydan Murtezaoğlu – Bülent Şangar, Ahmet Öğüt, İz Öztat, Cengiz Tekin and Canan Tolon.  In accordance with ARTER’s salient aim of encouraging production of contemporary artworks both nationally and internationally and providing a platform of visibility for artistic practices, “Second Exhibition” consists of works that are specifically produced for the exhibition.  “Second Exhibition” departs from the lack so far of any institutional and sustainable response to the urgent requirement for support towards artistic production despite the rapid growth of contemporary art in Turkey, and proposes a fresh look at the “institution” via new productions it has facilitated. The shared context of these new works is constructed around the concepts of the institution and institutionalisation in a wider framework with art at its centre.  ARTER’s “Second Exhibition”, which assumes as a title its chronological order among exhibitions organised here, seeks to evoke the sequentiality within the programme of artistic events at an art institution as well as an institutional continuity. It also ironically references the criterion of an art institution’s success usually associated with numerical values rather than the content produced.

Second Exhibition 28 November 2010–27 February 2011  Opening hours Tuesday–Thursday 11:00–19:00  Friday–Sunday 12:00–20:00  Closed on Mondays. Admission free.  ARTER – space for art   Istiklal Caddesi No: 211 – Beyoglu Istanbul, TR  For more information:  www.arter.org.tr
